چکیده

Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate (LECA), a clay-based lightweight aggregate expanding after burning at high temperatures, is among the promising material since it can be used as construction materials for buildings and roads, geotechnical fillings, hydroponic growing medium, humidity control, wall damper, heat insulation, water treatment, others. However, potential of clay from various places in Indonesia LECA an organic planting medium still not explored considerably. In this paper, local clays were studied to obtain suitable single raw production. originated Purwakarta, Sukabumi, Klaten Boyolali. The preliminary selection was evaluated based on XRD XRF test results. analysis showed that Boyolali shale bentonite most fitted Both synthesized into through firing process 1100°C 1200°C. Furthermore, product characterized by its bloating coefficient absorption. best results obtained with 4.63 or referred type 14.63%

Effects of expanded clay (Leca) and Styrofoam as inorganic growing media substances on growth and development of Spathiphyllum wallisii

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of expanded clay (Leca) and Styrofoam on the physical characteristics of growing media and their relationship with the growth of Spathiphyllum wallisii. The experiment was laid out in a complete randomized design (CRD) with 9 treatments and 3 replications. Cocopeat and peat moss combined with different proportions of inorganic materials Lec...

Defluoridation of water via Light Weight Expanded Clay Aggregate (LECA): Adsorbent characterization, competing ions, chemical regeneration, equilibrium and kinetic modeling

Natural, H2O2 and MgCl2 modified Light Weight Expanded Clay Aggregate (LECA) were used as fluoride adsorbents. Characterization of LECA and its modified forms was done by infra-red, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and X-ray fluorescence studies. The specific surface area of HML and MGML was 3.34 and 3.97 times greater than that of NL (11.72 m/g). Improved chemical composition of...

Development of Clay Foam Ceramic as a Support for Fungi Immobilization to Biodiesel Production (RESEARCH NOTE)

Biodiesel is an attractive alternative fuel because of its nontoxicity and biodegradability properties. Biodiesel is produced through transesterification of vegetable oils’ triglyceride. It is obtained from vegetable oils or fats either by chemical or enzyme-catalyzed transesterification with methanol or ethanol. By using whole-cell biocatalyst immobilized within biomass support particles (BSPs...

Organic Synthesis using Clay Catalysts

One of the major current challenges before chemists is to develop synthetic methods that are less polluting, i.e., to design clean or ‘green’ chemical transformations. The chemical manufacturing processes should be such that they do not cause permanent damage to the environment or disturb the ecological balance. Ways to minimize the consumption of energy and raw materials used in synthesis must...

Maya blue: a clay-organic pigment?

Maya Blue, a pigment used by the Mayas in Yucatan, is remarkably stable: the color is not destroyed by hot concentrated mineral acids or by heating to about 250 degrees C. The principal constituent is the colorless mineral attapulgite. It is proposed that the pigment is an adsorption complex of attapulgite and natural indigo; a synthetic equivalent may be prepared from attapulgite and either in...
